At Leigh Pierce Estates, a neglected apartment complex in a gentrifying Atlanta neighborhood, low-income tenants have started disappearing. Live-in handyman Xavier seems to be one of the only people paying attention.
Then Xavier encounters the culprit and becomes infected with something horrifying—a parasite that produces an insatiable hunger. His infection draws him toward a family squatting in the building's basement who are suffering from the same thing and have developed some deeply disturbing ways of feeding it. The horror becomes intertwined with poverty, gentrification, racism, healthcare inequality and what people are forced to do to survive.
