Long Dark House welcomes submissions from traditionally published, indie authors, and small presses whose work fits our shelves. We especially love discovering DC-Maryland-Virginia-area writers, emerging creators, and underrepresented voices in speculative storytelling.

WHAT WE CONSIDER

  • Horror, science fiction & speculative fiction
  • Fantasy, dark fantasy & weird fiction
  • Gothic fiction, folklore & mythology
  • Select thrillers & mysteries
  • Very limited selection of dark romance
  • Graphic novels within our genries
  • YA & middle grade within our genres
  • Select strange, unusual & macabre nonfiction
  • Professionally edited and retail-ready books
  • Valid, unique ISBN required

DISTRIBUTION & CONSIGNMENT

  • Availability through Ingram or another major distributor is strongly preferred
  • Select local and independent titles may be considered for consignment
  • Print-on-demand titles may be considered if professionally produced and retail-ready
  • Submission does not guarantee placement

PHYSICAL ARCs / REVIEW COPIES

A physical review copy is required for Long Dark House to evaluate independently submitted titles for potential placement.

GENERATIVE AI

Long Dark House celebrates human storytelling and creative work.

We do not knowingly accept independently submitted books created using generative AI, including AI-generated prose, cover art, or illustrations presented as human-created work.

LOCAL AUTHORS

DMV writers...we especially want to hear from you.

Local authors may also be considered for our local-author collection, signings, readings, panels, workshops, book clubs, and other programming.

Event participation and shelf placement are considered separately.
