Diverse stories deserve a place on the shelf.

As a small independent bookstore, we've been incredibly excited by the number of authors and publishers reaching out to share their work with us as we prepare for launch

Our shelves will always be personally and thoughtfully curated by the Long Dark House team, and we love discovering new books. However, to make sure we're able to give submissions proper consideration while still running our very tiny (but mighty!) shop, we're streamlining how we accept title suggestions.

Long Dark House welcomes submissions from traditionally published authors, indie authors, and small presses whose work fits our shelves. We especially love discovering DC-Maryland-Virginia-area writers, emerging creators, and underrepresented voices in speculative storytelling.

If you'd specifically like to submit a title for consideration, please review the information below and follow our submission process.

Submitting a title does not guarantee that we'll be able to stock it, but it helps our team keep recommendations organized and gives us the opportunity to thoughtfully review books that may be a good fit for Long Dark House and our readers.

WHAT WE CONSIDER

• Horror, science fiction & speculative fiction
• Fantasy, dark fantasy & weird fiction
• Gothic fiction, folklore & mythology
• Select thrillers & mysteries
• Very limited selection of dark romance
• Graphic novels within our genres
• YA , middle grade, & kids stories within our genres
• Select strange, unusual & macabre nonfiction
• Professionally edited & retail-ready books
• Valid, unique ISBN

DISTRIBUTION & CONSIGNMENT

• Availability through Ingram or another major distributor is strongly preferred
  
• Consignment is not considered at this time
• Submission does not guarantee placement

PHYSICAL ARCs / REVIEW COPIES

A physical review copy for Long Dark House is strongly preferred to evaluate independently submitted titles suggestion for placement.

GENERATIVE AI

Long Dark House celebrates human storytelling and creative work.

We do not intentionally accept independently submitted books created using generative AI, including AI-generated prose, cover art, or illustrations presented as human-created work.

LOCAL AUTHORS

DMV writers...we especially want to hear from you.

Local authors may also be considered for our local-author collection, signings, readings, panels, workshops, book clubs, and other programming.

Event participation and shelf placement are considered separately.
